Happy New Year! So I was tagged by the lovely Emma to do the 2017 Year In Book Review Tag and I just noticed the tag yesterday. I feel so terrible for not being as active on here but Christmas time is always a busy time for me. But I am finally getting organized and this is the first post on my blog for the year. Thank you so much Emma for tagging me and if you haven’t checked out her blog, then do yourself a favor and follow her.
I read a lot of great books in 2017 and some that weren’t so great. I started reading fantasy which has become my favorite genre and I’ve discovered some amazing new authors that I just loved! But unfortunately, there are always going to be books that will disappoint us and I read a couple of those. So this will be quite interesting.
1. First Ever Female Doctor Who (Favorite Female Protagonist)
This one goes to Cress from The Lunar Chronicles. I loved Cress and thought that her character development was fantastic through the series.
2. GCC Cuts Ties with Qatar (An Author You Cut Ties With)
This will probably be given to Jennifer Close. I read The Hopefuls last year and I read Girls In White Dresses this year and I did not care for either one.
3. La La Land Oscar Mix-Up (A Book That Surprised You)
The book that surprised me the most was by far The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. I went into this book expecting to hate everything about it. I hate aliens. I’m over dystopian books and this is screaming alien apocalypse. But I absolutely LOVED it. It was action packed and full of suspense and mystery and made me really think about what was going on in the story.
4. Hurricanes and Earthquakes (A Book That Rocked Your World)
The Wrath & the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh was so amazing. My cousin recommended to me to read the duology and I’m so glad I did. It totally blew me away!
5. Louvre Abu Dhabi (Favorite Book Cover Art)
I love the cover of Beauty and the Beast: Lost In a Book by Jennifer Donnelly. It has Belle on the front standing in front of her huge library. What’s better than that?
6. Da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi Sells for $450 Million (A Take-My-Money Book)
So, I read Heartless by Marissa Meyer and I loved it so much that I spent way too much money to get the OwlCrate exclusive cover. But you know what? I would buy every single edition of that book just because I love it so much. So yes, Marissa Meyer, take ALL MY MONEY!
7. Total Eclipse (A Sequel That Overshadows the First Book)
I just finished the Queen of Hearts trilogy by Colleen Oakes and I was not that impressed with the first book. But the second book, Blood of Wonderland, was so much better. The series gets better with each book!
8. Muslim Ban (Favorite Diverse Read)
I know there are a lot of mixed feelings about Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher but I loved the book. The TV show was not my cup of tea though. But I really did enjoy the book and thought that it gave us a wide range of diverse characters.
9. Italy Doesn’t Qualify for World Cup (Most Disappointing Book)
My most disappointing read had to be Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. And I admit I only read this book in preparation for the movie. The book was long and repetitive but the movie was pretty good!
10. Prince Harry Engaged (Favorite Ship)
I’m going to be basic and say Feyre and Rhysand from A Court of Mist and Fury because I LOVE them.
11. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Most Anticipated Book)
My most anticipated read was the Harry Potter series and it DEFINITELY did not disappoint. I have mentioned before that I am 25 years old and I never read Harry Potter until 2017 and that is because I never was allowed to read it or watch it while I was growing up. But I have now read it and I LOVE it!
Now, I’m not going to tag anyone specifically because I was tagged a little while ago but if you still would like to do this tag, then TAG YOU’RE IT! Anyone is welcome to do it. I hope everyone has a great New Year! Thanks for reading!
