I received this book from the author in return for an honest review. This in no way influences my opinion.

Peace Is the Mission is a story following a general in the Vulcan army and a princess of the Kaal clan who fall in love but they live within rivalry clans so it is forbidden. The Vulcan clan has the power of fire and the Kaal clan has ice powers. When the couple decides to run away, they find themselves welcomed by the Nagual clan with open arms and two clans that are ready for war. The chief of the Naguals believes they are to be on a mission to bring peace on earth between all the clans. So they prepare their armies for a war to bring peace.

I thought the premise of this story was great. There is a lot of diversity but I just could not connect with the characters. I also felt that the world building was lacking. I wanted so much more from this story. There was a lot of moral lessons in this book which is great but not when there is a new lesson on every other page. The romance between the Zion and Saidi wasn’t great. It felt a little forced. I actually thought the romance between Marcel and Atalanta was way more interesting. With so much war talk in the book, I was expecting a lot more action but we don’t really see that until we get closer to the end of the book.

Overall, I thought this was a decent debut novel from T. Douglas Tarenyika. I think I just went into this story with too high expectations. But I definitely recommend it for its diverse characters.
